In Madrid, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting with Edmundo González, the President-elect of Venezuela in exile, who is recognized by many countries as the legitimate winner of the elections. During the meeting, they also called María Corina Machado, the leader of Venezuela’s democratic forces, who is currently in hiding in Venezuela.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya expressed her support and solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who continue their struggle for freedom and democracy despite rigged elections and brutal repression.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the Venezuelan democratic leaders discussed possible joint actions on the international stage, including cooperation with Latin American countries, strategies for pressure on authoritarian regimes, and ways to achieve the release of political prisoners.
They separately discussed the issue of cooperation between the Lukashenka and Maduro regimes, agreeing to join forces to counter these ties effectively.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that the democratic forces of Belarus will continue to stand with the Venezuelan people in their fight: “We are fighting for the same values – freedom, dignity, and justice – and against the same evil – tyranny and lawlessness”.
