Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya regularly visits the Seimas in Vilnius to both raise important issues faced by Belarusians and work with leading Lithuanian politicians to find solutions. Today, she joined a session of the Cross-Party Parliamentary Group “For a Democratic Belarus”, together with representatives of Belarusian civil society, Seimas deputies, and members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The meeting took place within the framework of a joint initiative of the Seimas and the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
The issues discussed included:
- The legal status of Belarusian volunteer fighters who settled in Lithuania after fighting against Russian aggression in Ukraine;
- Challenges faced by Belarusians in education;
- Better integration of Belarusians into Lithuanian society;
- Coordination and a possible cooperation memorandum between the Lithuanian Seimas and the democratic forces of Belarus;
- A joint statement on the so-called “Litvinism” problem.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Constitutional Reform and Parliamentary Cooperation, Anatoli Liabedzka, spoke in detail about the meeting in a video.
