  • Lithuanian MPs voted against restrictions on Belarusians’ travel to home country

    April 25, 2024

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Just now, the final vote has ended in the Lithuanian Seimas on amendments to the draft law regulating the legal status of Belarusians in the country. The amendments that, among other things, could restrict travel to Belarus, did not pass because they were not supported by a sufficient number of deputies.

In recent weeks, we have done a great deal of work – dozens of meetings, conversations, and discussions – to achieve a majority of votes against the amendments. We have managed to reach a compromise with the Lithuanian partners and friends and defend the interests of Belarusians. I want to thank all the MPs who understand that Belarus is not Lukashenka, and Belarusians are not Russians. Thank you to everyone who supports Belarusians’ European choice.

Dear friends, at the same time, we urge you to mind the danger of traveling to Belarus, especially if you have experienced repression. Do not risk your freedom. If you are a holder of a humanitarian residence permit, please refrain from traveling to Belarus. Such a trip can be a ground to cancel your Lithuanian documents”.
