Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya continues her working visit to Italy and is now in Rome, where the conference of the Alliance of Parliamentary Groups “For a Democratic Belarus” began in the local parliament. The first such meeting took place in Berlin in 2023.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya addressed the MPs, presenting a series of proposals to European parliamentarians that could help strengthen international support for Belarus.
- Keeping Belarus on the agenda
“Distinguish Belarus from Russia and the Belarusian people from the regime. We must emphasize the importance of Belarus’ European future and that the project of Europe will not be complete without Belarus – just as without Ukraine, Moldova, or Georgia”.
- Engaging with Belarus’ democratic forces
“Work with the United Transitional Cabinet, the Coordination Council, political parties, and civil society organizations. Sign agreements between your parliaments and the democratic forces of Belarus. You can also organize events with Belarusian civil society, the diaspora, People’s Embassies, NGOs, and human rights defenders”.
- Holding discussions on Belarus in national parliaments
“Support our efforts to enhance mobility for Belarusians and assist those in exile with more visas, scholarships, and exchange programs to keep Belarusians within the European orbit”.
- Supporting the campaign to free political prisoners
“You can join the political prisoner support campaign through Libereco or organize exhibitions, as we have already done in many parliaments”.
- Signing a memorandum
“At the conclusion of this forum, we propose signing the ‘Rome Memorandum’ to highlight our unity”.
