The Belarusian leader began her working visit to Latvia with meetings at Daugavpils University. During negotiations with the university administration, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed the university’s connections with Belarus and its history of contacts with Belarusian universities – up until 2020, it cooperated with higher education institutions in Vitsebsk, Minsk, and Hrodna. Now, the democratic forces are restoring connections to give Belarusian students the opportunity to receive a European education.
As a result of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s visit, the parties agreed to:
📌 Allocate financing to allow Belarusians to study in the master’s program in Economics, with enrollment starting this year.
📌 Provide Belarusian scientists in exile with university equipment for research.
📌 Ease apostille requirements for documents.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also called on the university leadership to restore cooperation with Belarusian teachers and university staff who are currently in exile. “We should continue working with people and maintain connections between our nations, despite the regime’s attempts to divide us”, emphasized the leader.
