Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya continues her visit to the USA. The Belarusian leader met with the Under Secretary for Political Affairs, John Bass. She expressed gratitude for the support from the US State Department and diplomatic missions in Vilnius responsible for Belarus.
During the meeting, the parties discussed:
📌 Financial support for Belarusian media and aid for repressed individuals, cultural, and educational initiatives;
📌 Simplification of visa issuance;
📌 Possible steps for the release of political prisoners;
📌 New sanctions against the Lukashenka regime, closing loopholes, synchronization of sanctions between the EU and the US, particularly for the regime’s involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine;
📌 Steps to hold the regime accountable through international courts;
📌 Belarus’ relations with Ukraine and cooperation with the Ukrainian government;
📌 Belarus’ participation in the NATO Summit which will be held in July in Washington.
US representatives assured Ms. Tsikhanouskaya that the US policy vis-a-vis Belarus will remain consistent and principled, while cooperation with Belarus’ democratic forces will continue.
