  • Tatiana Shchyttsova: “Ideological control and pro-Russian propaganda make degradation of social and humanitarian sciences in Belarus inevitable”

    April 18, 2024

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Education and Science, Tatiana Shchyttsova, participated in a meeting of senior EU officials held to discuss assistance to democratic Belarus. The participants addressed issues related to various aspects of Belarusians’ lives, such as human rights, education, enlightenment, and culture. Another discussion focused on ways to improve the situation of political prisoners and achieve their release.

The advisor made a speech, emphasizing the need to maintain and create scholarship programs that allow Belarusian youth to study at European universities.

Additionally, Ms. Shchyttsova noted that ideological control and pro-Russian propaganda make the degradation of social and humanitarian sciences in Belarus inevitable.

Here are the main points emphasized by the advisor:

📌 “We need to support independent Belarusian science. In addition to individual assistance to repressed scientists and lecturers, it is important to support cooperation between scientists from Belarus and scientists from other countries”.

📌 “Joint research projects are needed to correct the perception of Belarus in Western countries, distorted by the influence of pro-Russian imperial narratives”.

📌 “It is important that the Belarusian perspective is presented in scientific discussions related to the European region. The best form of support in the field of science is international cooperation”.
