  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Knowledge Day address

    September 01, 2024

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addresses Belarusian parents on September 1, when the school year starts in Belarus:

Every year on September 1, I find myself amazed at how quickly time flies. It feels like just yesterday that Siarhei and I, nervous but proud parents, were walking Karnei to his first day of school. And now, I can hardly believe that it’s already the third year our grown-up Ahniya is getting dressed and packing her school bag all by herself. It breaks my heart that Siarhei can’t hold her hand on such an important day. He can’t encourage Karnei or smile at me and say, “Just look at how wonderful our children are!”

Unfortunately, this Knowledge Day is overshadowed by the fact that our family, like many others, is torn. But I truly believe that the most important thing we can give our children is the feeling of endless love and support. This is the foundation that will help them overcome any childhood worries — whether it’s misunderstanding with a teacher, a poor grade, or their first crush.

Dear parents! I wish you patience and strength to provide your children with the most important lessons — how to remain kind and compassionate in any situation, how to love in a world filled with uncertainty, and how to stay strong when challenges seem overwhelming.

    Happy Knowledge Day!
