  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s address on the anniversary of Ales Bialiatski’s arrest

    July 14, 2025

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “It’s been four years since Ales Bialiatski was imprisoned. A devoted admirer of Belarusian culture, founder of the Viasna Human Rights Center, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and author of dozens of books – a Belarusian who spent every day of his life seeking ways to help, support, and protect others. A man who dedicated his entire life to human rights in Belarus was punished for his kindness and pursuit of justice.

This year, Ales will turn 63. He hasn’t even served half of his sentence, and his health in prison is already beginning to deteriorate. Please write him letters, even if not all of them are delivered. Read his books, and be inspired by the thoughts of a man who, throughout his life, never betrayed his principles or strayed from morality. People like Ales are the conscience of our country. We will preserve his legacy and bring closer the day when Ales is free again, continuing the work of his life – helping others”.
