  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “We must organize everything in a way to attract Belarusians back to the country”

    August 25, 2024

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya participated in Campus Polska and shared her thoughts on the 2025 election and the future awaiting Belarusians.

Here are the key points from her speech:

📌 “I want to avoid creating the illusion that everything will be perfect after the democratic change. It will be a difficult and painful period of recovery instead because right now Lukashenka is selling off Belarus, selling its economy to the Russians. But I see how much Belarusians want to restore their homeland, and that’s why I’m confident that, with the help of our democratic friends, we will succeed”.

📌 “I am convinced that after a democratic and fair election, when Belarus elects a new leader, the country will attract a lot of investments. We will need to carry out reforms to allow us to rebuild the country. We have excellent examples around us, like Poland and Moldova. This is why we must organize everything in a way to attract Belarusians back to the country and motivate them to start businesses in Belarus”.

📌 “I have no doubt that in 2025, Lukashenka will stage another ritual farce to appoint himself president. But he lost legitimacy in the eyes of the citizens in 2020. Of course, they will hold the election but if it can legitimize anything, it will only be Lukashenka in his own eyes. What is happening in Belarus has nothing to do with elections”.

📌 “Lukashenka has become a political pariah that cannot be accepted. For Western leaders, he is completely unacceptable. Western leaders have been and will remain fully on the side of democratic forces”.

📌 “The European Union has pledged three billion euros to support the Belarusian economy and implement reforms after fair and just elections. We do not want Lukashenka to convince the world that everything is back to normal in Belarus and he remains the leader”.
