Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, accompanied by her Advisor for Interparliamentary Cooperation, Anatoli Liabedzka, and the Head of the Office of Belarus Democratic Forces in the Czech Republic, Kryścina Šyjanok, received a delegation of Czech senators led by the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Pavel Fischer, in her Vilnius office.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked the Czech Senate for its firm stance on Belarus. It has adopted a resolution in support of the mobility of Belarusians and civil society and supported the Congress on Political Prisoners held in May in Prague. The Belarusian leader called on the Czech Republic to distinguish between the Belarusian people and the regime by supporting repressed citizens, social, cultural, and media initiatives, and issuing visas to Belarusians, on the one hand, and closing loopholes in the sanctions used by the regime, on the other.
Anatoli Liabedzka invited the Czech senators to conduct a legal review of the draft Constitution and laws for the new Belarus. Pavel Fischer approved the idea and applauded the democratic forces’ efforts to develop the vision of a new Belarus today.
