  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on attack on Belarusian store in Vilnius: “We are in contact with Lithuanian authorities. Police are searching for perpetrators”

    July 29, 2024

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “A month ago, I visited the Belarusian space ‘Kropka’ in Vilnius, created by former Belarusian political prisoner Dzmitry Furmanau. The news of the attack on the store came as a shock to me. It is absolutely unacceptable, outrageous, and dangerous. This is yet another provocation by the regime to sow discord between Belarusians and Lithuanians, create hostile attitudes towards Belarusians in Lithuania, and instill fear within the Belarusian community.

What is important is not only the attack itself but also the deliberate attempt to incite ethnic hostility. There is no place for xenophobia in any form within Belarusian and Lithuanian societies.

We are in contact with the Lithuanian authorities and have sent an official request – the police are searching for the perpetrators. I am grateful that Lithuania pays significant attention to the safety of Belarusians who have moved to Lithuania due to repression in Belarus. Belarusians and Lithuanians should stop such provocateurs together.

Let me express my support for Dzmitry Furmanau and the entire team of ‘Kropka’”.
