The meeting of Jens Plötner and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya focused on alien passports for Belarusians in Germany, recognition of the new Belarusian passport, as well as steps needed to achieve the release of political prisoners and support their families.
The politicians also talked about the strategy vis-a-vis Belarus, sanctions pressure, and closing loopholes to avoid circumvention. They discussed the migration crisis and Russian military presence in Belarus. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya asked Germany to support the European perspective for Belarus at the federal and the EU level.
At the end of the meeting, the Belarusian leader thanked Mr. Plötner for Germany’s decision not to send an ambassador to Minsk, as well as for the German government’s cooperation with the United Transitional Cabinet.
