During the Belarus Days in Brussels, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the new EU Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya congratulated Mr. Kubilius on his appointment, thanking him for his years of support during his time in the European Parliament and expressing hope for closer collaboration in the future.
The meeting focused on recent developments in Belarus, including signed agreements and ‘security guarantees’ between Belarus and Russia, sanctions evasion by the regime, and arms supplies to Russia. The discussions also addressed assistance for Belarusian veterans who fought on Ukraine’s side.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called for keeping Belarus a priority for the new European Commission and shared the democratic forces’ plans for the 2025 sham election.
“I am grateful to Commissioner Kubilius for his solidarity and support. He is one of our strongest allies in Brussels. Now, with Belarus’ independence and regional security at such critical risk, we need to improve coordination and information sharing. We must not allow Belarus to be fully drawn into the war,” the leader noted.
