Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “It has been a year since the regime last released footage of my husband. Since then, neither we – his family – nor Belarusians know anything about Siarhei.
His inhumane imprisonment has lasted for more than four years. My heart breaks at the thought of him being alone there. Without the chance to see our children grow, learn, laugh, and discover new things. Every day without him is an ordeal that words cannot describe.
A month ago, Karnei and Ahniya brought home Father’s Day cards they drew at school. Siarhei still hasn’t received these gifts, nor has he received tens of thousands of your letters of support. We are deprived of all means of communication with Siarhei. Even our children haven’t been receiving letters from him…
I share the pain of thousands of families of political prisoners and know what it feels like constantly waiting to hear from a loved one. I, too, have moments when my soul is filled with despair and helplessness. But your support keeps me from giving up and motivates me to keep working. It is in such moments that I realize that only together – through helping each other – can we achieve the release of all political prisoners.
Dear Belarusians! Each of us can make an impact today by writing a letter or postcard, making a donation, joining a solidarity rally, or doing something to support the families of political prisoners. There is no such thing as “small help”. Everything we do brings us closer to the day when we can embrace our loved ones”.
