In an interview with the Polish publication PAP, the Belarusian leader called for efforts to free political prisoners in Belarus and support Belarusians in exile, while also stating that it is people, not sanctions, who can change the situation in Belarus.
Here are the key points from the conversation:
📌 “I want to come back home, I don’t want to be in exile for the rest of my life. Whenever I feel exhausted, I always try to put myself in the place of the people in prisons, like Andrzej Poczobut or my husband. These people, our loved ones, our family members, and friends depend on us. We are their only hope. The release of our compatriots is, of course, our top priority”.
📌 “It’s not sanctions that will change the situation in Belarus but people. This is why we need to support the potential of those in exile. They need to stand on their own feet to continue their struggle”.
📌 “What Poland is doing now is great because it puts pressure on the Lukashenka regime while also supporting Belarusians. Poland can serve as an example for others on how to approach Belarus and distinguish between the regime in Belarus and the Belarusian people. Poland clearly demonstrates that it is the regime that must be punished, not the citizens”.
📌 “We need to understand that Belsat is not just some TV channel. The regime loathes Belsat because of its significant influence in Belarus. I am in contact with the Polish authorities regarding Belsat, and we are trying to find the best solution both for Belarusians and for Poland”.
