In an interview with the Dozhd TV channel, the Belarusian leader shared her vision of the conditions required for fair elections in Belarus and emphasized the importance of strengthening national identity.
Here are the key points from the interview:
📌 “Lukashenka wants to stay in power indefinitely. He is afraid of passing it on because he trusts no one”.
📌 “For real elections to take place in Belarus, five conditions must be met: an end to repressions, the release of all political prisoners, equal opportunities for all candidates to run and participate, freedom of the press and speech, and a fair vote count”.
📌 “Lukashenka knows he won’t regain the West’s favor. Moreover, despite appearing to be Putin’s ally now, he fears Russia. He knows Putin could replace him. To minimize risks, he maintains maximum pressure on the people within the country”.
📌 “The West faces many challenges, including both Ukraine and Belarus, whose fates are deeply intertwined. It has the power to act but lacks political will”.
📌 “We need to strengthen our national identity because Russia is taking over Belarus — its language and all spheres of life. We need to strengthen the media to counter propaganda and support civil society and political bodies”.
