The Belarusian leader participated in the annual Clinton Global Initiative meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Together with Hillary Clinton and Yulia Navalnaya, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed why all democratic tools must be used to support those fighting against dictatorships.
📌 “Not knowing who your next president will be is a luxury. Under dictatorship, we have always known who is going to be re-elected. And the authorities have always imprisoned those who challenged the dictator. We have always had political prisoners, and we must stop this”.
📌 “We must use every tool democracy has to offer to help those in need. I see how dictators disrespect the democratic world. They think democracy is weak”.
📌 “We want to dismantle the regime, hold free and fair elections, and return to our European roots. I don’t just hope for Belarus’ future. I am certain that we will achieve what we desire”.
📌 “Every Belarusian is a role model for me. All the Belarusians who are now in prison are my heroes. They sacrificed their freedom to give us the chance to continue the fight, and I cannot betray them. Of course, I have moments of despair or fatigue but I immediately think of those in prison”.
