The Belarusian leader met today with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in her Office in Vilnius.
During the official part of the meeting, Ms. Metsola invited Ms. Tsikhanouskaya to participate in the European People’s Party Summit to include Belarus in its international agenda. The event will take place in Bucharest in March. The politicians also discussed formalizing the democratic forces’ relations with the European Parliament, as has already been done with the USA, the European Commission, and the Council of Europe.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya particularly emphasized the issue of political prisoners. The leader proposed supporting the idea of establishing an international fund to assist the families of political prisoners and provide rehabilitation to those released from prisons.
Afterward, the President of the European Parliament met with the families of political prisoners and former political prisoners. Belarusians shared their experience of incarceration and urged Ms. Metsola to do everything possible to liberate those who remain behind bars.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya invited Roberta Metsola to become a symbolic godparent to one of the Belarusian political prisoners and call on other MEPs to join the campaign.
