The Belarusian leader visited the YouTube regional office in Berlin, where she met with the platform’s Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Sabine Frank. During the meeting, they discussed Belarusian language support on YouTube, promotion of Belarusian content and blocking of the regime’s propaganda.
The Belarusian language is currently supported on most of YouTube’s services, available in the interface and for content monetization. The YouTube representative noted that the platform is already considering support of the Belarusian language in Google Ads.
YouTube actively monitors and removes the regime’s videos of its opponents’ forced confession. Channels and accounts of propaganda figures and organizations sanctioned by the EU, US, or UK are also removed from the platform.
The Belarusian leader stressed the dominance of Russian and propaganda content and lack of independent media in YouTube trends. The YouTube representative pledged to address this issue.
Ms. Frank and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also discussed organizing training for Belarusian media and initiatives involving YouTube specialists.
In addition, YouTube highlighted its free advertising budgets available for Belarusian civil society organizations and media through the partner organization TechSoup.
