The Belarusian leader met with the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of the Interior, Dimitrijs Trofimovs. The politicians discussed the issues of legalization of stay in Latvia and the bureaucratic obstacles Belarusians face during this process.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya urged the State Secretary to consider recognizing expired Belarusian passports as valid. The leader also asked to find solutions for children born in Latvia who cannot obtain Belarusian documents.
It was agreed at the meeting that the Ministry of the Interior will release instructions for Belarusians regarding the legalization of stay in Latvia. Mr. Trofimovs noted that Latvia may consider granting temporary protection to Belarusians who fled their country due to repression.
