During the meeting with the German Minister of State for Europe, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya raised the issues of assistance to the Belarusian civil society and independent media, as well as increasing support for Belarusian volunteer fighters in Ukraine, to whom Germany had previously provided 5 pickup trucks and a mobile hospital.
Ms. Lührmann announced preparations to simplify the legalization of stay for Belarusians in Germany. In particular, the government is preparing instructions for migration authorities to issue legal documents and alien passports to Belarusians living abroad. The Belarusian leader also called for resolving visa issues by increasing the number of humanitarian visas for Belarusians and simplifying the procedures for obtaining them.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked Ms. Lührmann for Germany’s consistent efforts to support free Belarus and proposed appointing a Special Envoy for Relations with Democratic Forces, as Sweden, France, Poland, and Estonia have already done.
