During the Paris Peace Forum, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed ways to support independent Belarusian journalists. She raised this issue in her speech and held a separate meeting with the leadership of the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) – its Executive Director Nishant Lalwani and Co-Chair, Nobel laureate Maria Ressa.
Thanks in part to the efforts of the democratic forces, IFPIM has launched a support program for Belarusian journalists with financial backing from Sweden.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also met with the leadership of France’s RFI and the country’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, to discuss a possible Belarusian-language editorial team at RFI.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Belarusian journalists are doing an outstanding job – they help people learn the truth on both sides of the border, building bridges and connections. And most importantly, the majority of the audience of independent media in exile consists of Belarusians inside the country. I use every opportunity to find support for our journalists so they can continue their vital mission”.
