  • Regional security and information exchange: What Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed with Defense Ministers of Latvia and Estonia

    February 18, 2024

At the Munich Security Conference, the Belarusian leader met with the Minister of Defense of Latvia, Andris Sprūds, and the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Hanno Pevkur. The politicians discussed the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus by Russia, Russian-Belarusian military exercises, as well as attempts by the Lukashenka regime to benefit from the war.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya noted that Belarus is critically important for Putin for the war in Ukraine and possible escalation against Western countries. The leader proposed that the ministers pay special attention to this issue. Additionally, during the meetings, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the defense ministers to distinguish between the regime and the Belarusian people. She emphasized that there is neither support in Belarusian society nor in the Belarusian army for confrontation and participation in the war, and attempts by the regime to drag Belarusians into the war are doomed to fail.

At the end of the meetings, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the ministers to assist Belarusian volunteers fighting for Ukraine, including the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment. They agreed to provide a list of specific needs of volunteers and exchange information on the situation within the country, as well as establish cooperation at the expert level and with the United Transitional Cabinet.
