  • Austrian Foreign Minister assured Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya that all EU countries are united in their positions on Belarus

    June 18, 2021

Today, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and called on EU countries, represented by the minister, to remain united in decisions on Belarus. Next week, the EU plans to adopt sanctions against regime supporters, “wallets” and refineries, potassium fertilizers, and the banking sector.

Initially, Ms.Tsikhanouskaya sent a letter to 27 EU Ministries with 31 concrete proposals to respond to the regime’s actions, including assistance to civil society, repressed journalists, isolation of the regime and sanctions.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Minister Sсhallenberg assured me that Austria supports the EU’s common policy on Belarus. We discussed planned sanctions and a high-level conference to resolve the crisis in Belarus. We will continue our communication on Monday during my working visit to Luxembourg – and I am grateful for the unity of Europe in support of all Belarusians”.
