Today in Washington, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya had a meeting with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, and Counselor of US Department of State Derek Chollet. They discussed the Ryanair plane hijack, attacks on civil society and the media in Belarus, and illegal migration to Lithuania, organized by the regime, as an attempt to take revenge on the EU. Leader of democratic Belarus highly appreciated the support of the US Ambassador to Belarus, Julie Fisher.
During the meeting, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya called on the United States:
– to provide a package of emergency assistance for Belarusian independent media, support civil society;
– to give a signal to Russia that “Russia can play a constructive role in the resolution of the crisis in Belarus, and Lukashenka will not question the sovereignty of Belarus and the security of the entire region”;
– to increase political and economic pressure on the regime and synchronize actions with the EU, UK, and Canada.
