Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is paying a working visit to the Netherlands. During the meeting with the Prime Minister Mark Rutte, she announced that it is very important for people in Belarus that the cases about human rights’ violation will be handed over to the International criminal court in Hague. Sviatlana also announced the establishment of the center of universal jurisdiction in Vilnius, that will be gathering information about the regime’s crimes against peaceful Belarusians.
Imposal of economic sanctions on companies related to Lukashenka was also discussed during the meeting. The imposal of these sanctions is now being considered by the EU.
Sviatlana told Mark Rutte about the murder of Raman Bandarenka and also about the repressions in urban district communities and terrorist operations of law enforcement officials against civilians. Tsikhanouskaya stated that Belarusians need help from the world community, and added that the support of democracy and human rights is not considered as interference in the affairs of another state. Sviatlana’s response to the question about the relations with Russia was that the Belarusian revolution does not have an anti-Russia character, it is pro-democratic.
Mark Rutte asked about the fate of political prisoners. Sviatlana told about the case of Siarhei Tsikhanousky and reported that at the moment there are 125 political prisoners recognized by human rights activists. At the same time, not a single criminal case was started on violence and tortures of peaceful protesters.
The Prime Minister expressed his admiration to the people of Belarus. Rutte stated that the Netherlands continue helping Belarus: the kingdom has already allocated 1,6 million dollars to support civil society.
