During her visit to London, the Belarusian leader held a briefing for the ambassadors of 24 EU countries. She asked the nations represented at the meeting to join the OSCE Group of friends of Belarus, as well as to appoint special envoys to work with democratic Belarus instead of sending ambassadors to Minsk.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called for assistance to exiled Belarusians, who risk being left without passports and documents because of the regime’s recent laws. “The new Belarusian passport could be the solution. We expect to start issuing passports next year and will ask your governments to recognize them”, the Belarusian leader said.
She also called on European countries to abstain from recognizing as legitimate the 2024 elections, for which the regime is already preparing. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya proposed to continue working on accountability for perpetrators of human rights violations: “Our international partners have collected enough evidence to initiate cases under universal jurisdiction against representatives of the regime”.
