Yesterday, May 31, during a working visit to Rotterdam, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the President of Moldova Maia Sandu. This was the first meeting of the two leaders.
Tsikhanouskaya expressed support for Maia Sandu in connection with economic and social challenges: Moldova received more than a hundred thousand refugees from Ukraine, including Belarusians. In turn, the President of Moldova expressed her support for the Belarusian democratic movement.
At the meeting they discussed:
– possible scenarios for the development of the conflict in the region, the risks of an escalation of the war and the need for decisive action on the part of the international community to help Ukraine;
– the situation with Belarusian companies that continue to work in Moldova, including IT companies that relocated from Ukraine because of the war;
– launch of the parliamentary group of friends of Belarus. In the near future, Tsikhanouskaya’s representatives will go to Moldova to hold working meetings.
Earlier, Anatoli Liabedzka, Tsikhanouskaya’s representative for parliamentary cooperation, held discussions with the Moldovan parliament about joint work with the Belarusian democratic forces.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Maia Sandu agreed to continue cooperation. “I hope this will be a good start to a new chapter in Belarus-Moldova relations”, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya stated.
