Today, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya began her visit to Germany. As a result of her first meeting in the Bundestag, a group of Friends of Belarus including about 30 MPs was established in the German parliament.
During the meeting, the group members agreed on internships in the German parliament for young Belarusians. As the parties also discussed patronage over political prisoners, each MP of the group is expected to take patronage over a Belarusian political prisoner. The discussions also focused on a potential resolution on Belarus, which will identify the issues faced by Belarusians and mechanisms for their solution.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor for the Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation Anatoli Liabedzka spoke in detail about the meeting in a video (available in Belarusian). He mentioned the Office’s plans to form similar groups in Germany at the local level and involve German actors in legal expertise of laws for the new Belarus.
