Cardinal Kazimierz Nych is an archbishop, one of the most authoritative bishops of the Polish Church.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked the Cardinal for the Church’s decision to allow Belarusians in Poland to pray in the Belarusian language, and for providing premises for Belarusians in Warsaw to gather humanitarian aid. They used the premises as an aid depot for refugees from Ukraine, where thousands of people have already received aid.
Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed the situation with political prisoners in Belarus, in particular with Belarusian Catholics. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya told the Cardinal about the persecution of Catholics and Greek-Catholics, including for their active social position. Many believers are behind bars and have no access to priests.
They also discussed:
- the destruction of Polish Catholic cemeteries by the regime in Belarus. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya called this barbarism, which is inadmissible.
- holding a special Mass for Belarusians in Poland by the archbishop.
The Cardinal assured Ms. Tsikhanouskaya that Belarusian believers, both Orthodox and Catholics, will receive support, including from the Church.
