  • 3rd Conference of Belarusian Diaspora in Prague: First day results

    March 24, 2024

Here are the key issues discussed by speakers in the panel discussions during the Third Conference of the Belarusian Diaspora.

📌 First panel. Speakers emphasized the need to strengthen the internal and external policies, support for Ukraine, and the Belarusian diaspora’s active participation in international events.

Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet, Pavel Latushka, stressed: “It is important that our diaspora advocates accountability for the regime over its international crimes. We must act as a united front so that Lukashenka enters the 2025 election as a suspect in international crimes”.

📌 Second panel. The discussion focused on the importance of developing relations between Ukraine and democratic Belarus. Speakers deliberated on cooperation between countries amid geopolitical challenges and identified directions for more joint efforts.

Ambassador-at-Large of Ukraine for Belarus, Ihor Kyzym, stated: “The regime in Belarus is a threat to the security of Ukraine. Ukraine’s strategic interest is to have a democratic Belarus on its northern borders – with transparent politics and understandable government decisions”.

📌 Third panel. Participants emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts. Solving the problems faced by Belarusians in the country and beyond requires cooperation with international organizations and authorities of various countries. This includes addressing migration issues, supporting political prisoners, and developing the Belarusian culture and identity.

Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet, Valery Kavaleuski, noted: “Work on the passport project is a priority. And the project needs your participation. First, we will soon organize a census of Belarusians around the world to understand how many people live in certain countries and how many of them need passports. Second, we will launch a fundraiser for the passport issuance authority’s activities”.
