Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Today, the “court” sentenced Pavel Belavus to 13 years of imprisonment. People who would not care much if Belarus lost its independence and merged into Russia convicted a man who puts Belarus before all else. Pavel Belavus has been working on projects promoting Belarusian culture and national identity for more than 10 years.
This sentence is not only for Pavel – this is a sentence for all Belarusians who dream of a Belarus that values its identity. A country where people know their history, respect their traditions, have national dignity, and speak their native language. All of this the regime now considers “extremism”.
Pavel Belavus has his wife Katsiaryna and two young children waiting for him at home. The regime has confiscated their cars and even some of their household appliances. After the verdict, it can confiscate everything else in their home – from the coffee maker to the microwave. I urge you to support Pavel and his family. This fundraiser will help Pavel Belavus' family pay legal bills and buy basic necessities.”
