Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “The regime has been rewriting the history of our country for years. They have been erasing the names of our heroes and important events from textbooks and substituting facts by telling stories of a sweet life under Russian occupation. Instead of recognizing Belarusian Latin script as a historical and cultural value, the regime has banned it. Now they are pushing the imperial ideology of 'brotherly ties' particularly hard, forcing children from kindergartens to universities to listen to the lies of the police officers and propagandists. The idea to erase our memory did not come to them just like that. They understand that our history is our vaccine against the mistakes of the past and our chance for a better future.
And now, as the regime tries to take away our national identity to prevent us from having a free future, we must resist. Or, better still, know our roots, keep the truth about our country at least in our minds, and even better, share it with others”.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s team also shared a list of Belarusian initiatives that tell the true story of the country to share with the people of Belarus.
