    July 10, 2023

    The Belarusian leader’s Office was visited by the chairman of the Free Belarus Caucus in the US Senate, Jeanne Shaheen, as well as Dick Durbin, Thom Tillis, Pete Ricketts, Dan Sullivan, and Angus King.

    During the meeting, the parties discussed the need for decisive international action to secure the release of political prisoners and protect Belarusian independence. The Belarusian leader talked about the situation with the Wagner PMC and the stationing of nuclear weapons.

    • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the US senators to:

    – appoint a special envoy for Belarus;
    – consider adopting a new Belarus Democracy Act;
    – back a resolution condemning the stationing of nuclear weapons in Belarus;
    – support independent journalists, repressed individuals, and human rights defenders.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya informed the senators about the recent steps taken to hold the regime accountable for crimes against humanity, repression against Belarusians, and involvement in aggression against Ukraine. She emphasized that the Belarusian people oppose the war and that it is the Lukashenka regime that assists Putin.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked the US Senate for supporting the efforts to release political prisoners and promote democratic changes in Belarus. The senators expressed their support for Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the entire democratic movement in Belarus. They pledged to raise the Belarus issue during the NATO Summit.
