Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Bujar Osmani discussed the crisis faced by the OSCE as a result of the disruptive behavior of the Lukashenka regime and Russia. Earlier, the official delegations of Minsk and Russia had blocked Estonia's chairmanship in the organization.
They discussed the findings of the Moscow Mechanism report and further steps for its implementation, as well as joint actions by OSCE countries for different crisis scenarios in Belarus. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya proposed considering other OSCE mechanisms that could be helpful in resolving the Belarusian issue.
The Belarusian leader called for intensifying the OSCE's work in Belarus and utilizing ODIHR instruments for securing the release of political prisoners and monitoring politically motivated trials.
The discussion also focused on the expected stationing of Russia's nuclear weapons and the presence of Russian troops on Belarusian territory. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that the deployment of nuclear weapons violates the Belarusian constitution and goes against the will of the Belarusian people, rendering it illegitimate. She noted that all Russian troops must be withdrawn from Belarus, and the international community should prepare a resolute response to the stationing of nuclear weapons.
