  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya responded to Lukashenka’s statement about the inevitability of war

    February 23, 2023

Today, Lukashenka stated that Russia's attack on Ukraine was supposedly inevitable. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya commented on his words:

“The only thing that was inevitable was Lukashenka's involvement in the war, as he cannot say 'no' to his 'big brother.' This war could have been easily avoided by not starting it in the first place. And certainly by not becoming an accomplice to it.

By not providing Belarusian territory for missile strikes against peaceful residents in Ukraine. By not providing Russia with materials and logistics. By not housing Russian soldiers in our homes, allowing them to throw their weight about. By not standing shoulder to shoulder with Putin to make the country a target for new sanctions for complicity in the war. By not imprisoning brave Belarusians who tried to prevent this disaster and not shooting at them.

All of this could have been avoided. And this is how the country could have been saved from war.”
