  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with President of Poland Andrzej Duda

    June 04, 2021

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's delegation included Valery Kavaleuski and Pavel Latushka. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked President Duda for the initiated and adopted EU Assistance Plan for Democratic Belarus and comprehensive assistance to Belarus: Kalinowski Program, support of independent media, including Belsat, assistance to relocated people and businesses, support for the Centre of Belarusian Solidarity and the Belarusian House in Warsaw.

    During the meeting with Andrzej Duda, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Pavel Latushka, and Valery Kavaleuski discussed:

    – how to assist Raman Pratasevich’s parents and ensure that those responsible for the plane hijacking are held accountable;
    – how to speed up the process of establishing cases of universal jurisdiction in Poland, since so many Belarusians fled to Poland to avoid persecution by the regime;
    – how to increase economic and political pressure on Lukashenka through sanctions and recognition of the regime as terroristic.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya noted the inadmissibility of trafficking in political prisoners:  “All innocent people must be released. This cannot be bargained. We have seen in what state Raman is – he is a hostage of the regime – and we must do everything to free Raman and thousands of people who are in the same inhumane conditions”.

    In the morning, before the meeting with President Duda, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, on the occasion of the opening of the Belarusian solidarity memorial. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and Mr. Trzaskowski held a press conference together, and leader of democratic Belarus thanked the Mayor for his support of Belarusians, their initiatives, and for the fact that relocation in Warsaw became a rescue for many of them.
