  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya welcomed Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttir, in her office in Vilnius

    May 26, 2023

On May 25, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland visited Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's office in Vilnius. During the meeting, they discussed the outcomes of the Council of Europe Summit held in Reykjavik and further action. They agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of the Council of Europe and the United Nations and talked about a potential joint discussion during the UN General Assembly session, the campaign to prevent nuclear weapons stationing, and support for the Belarusian civil society.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya handed over a report from the National Anti-Crisis Management on the forcible displacement of Ukrainian children to Belarus and called for support in holding the Lukashenka regime accountable through international courts. Iceland has been supporting democratic Belarus since 2020, joining all the sanctions, supporting the OSCE Moscow Mechanism concerning Belarus, and providing assistance to Belarusian independent media and civil society organizations.
