Today, Lithuania’s working group on migration and public security held its first meeting. The group was established as agreed at a meeting between Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Lithuania's Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė.
The working group includes representatives from Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Office, the United Transitional Cabinet, ByPol, BYSOL, the Belarusian Human Rights House, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Migration Department of Lithuania.
The meeting focused on the issues faced by Belarusians in Lithuania, including:
- Legalization of stay for those with invalid or lost passports.
- Obtaining documents for children born outside of Belarus who do not have Belarusian passports.
- Obtaining national visas and extending residence permits on humanitarian grounds.
The parties discussed possible solutions to the raised issues and agreed on their next steps. The working group will hold regular meetings, with their outcomes communicated through official channels.
