  • Outcomes of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s visit to Berlin

    The four-day visit included two dozen working meetings, interviews, and events. During the visit, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya conveyed the vision of Belarusian democratic forces on the resolution of Belarus’ crisis and reform projects to the President of Germany, main political parties, and representatives of the future government.

    November 9

    – Meeting with the Belarusian diaspora in Germany.
    – Meeting with German Vice-Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
    – Attending events of the Pilecki Institute – an exhibition dedicated to Belarus and concert of the “Volny Chor”.

    November 10

    – Interview with Tagesspiegel and Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.
    – Meeting with the co-chairwoman of Die Linke party Janine Wissler.
    – Meeting with the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of Bundestag, Norbert Röttgen (CDU party).
    – Meeting with representatives of Die Grünen party – Bundestag Vice President Claudia Roth, Chancellor candidate Annalena Berbock and co-chairman of the party Robert Habeck.
    – Meeting with the Secretary-General of the CDU party Paul Ziemiak.
    – Meeting with representatives of the FDP party – Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights of Bundestag Gyde Jensen and Alexander Graf Lambsdorff.
    – Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya delivered the inaugural Helmut Schmidt Lecture on the Belarusian protest movement and took part in a discussion afterward.
    – Interview for one of the most popular German TV talk shows, maischberger.die woche on the ARD channel.

    November 11

    – Attending the Bundestag plenary session, where the issue of Belarus and the migrant crisis was discussed.
    – Meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
    – Participation in the round table “Culture in New Belarus” together with writers Alhierd Baharevich, Sasha Filipenko, poet Julia Cimafiejeva, and director Aliaksei Paluyan.
    – Meeting with the SPD representatives on Foreign Affairs and the party's Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Nils Schmid.
    – Participation in the BMW Foundation event.
    – Interview for Deutsche Welle and Belsat.

    November 12

    – Meeting with diplomats held by the US Embassy in Berlin.
    – Call with European Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi on the issue of importing free European vaccines to Belarus.

    As a result of the visit, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya received the support of the main Bundestag parties – SPD, CDU, Die Grünen, FDP, Die Linke, which make up the majority in the Bundestag. Germany is ready to help Belarusians with vaccines, strengthen sanctions against the regime and increase support for the media and initiatives.
