At the meeting, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked the PM for his support within the Council of Europe: the Contact Group on Belarus was initiated during the Irish presidency.
The leaders discussed the latest sentences of Pratasevich and Putsila, as well as the critical situation with Viktar Babaryka and other political prisoners. They also discussed launching a program to rehabilitate former political prisoners and their families.
The Prime Minister spoke about the Belarusian projects that Ireland has already supported, including independent media and human rights and cultural initiatives. Ireland will continue this support.
“This is not our first meeting with Prime Minister Varadkar, and I can say with certainty that Belarus has been and remains an international priority for Ireland. I am very pleased that this visit to Ireland was practical rather than symbolic, we have obtained firm plans and a pledge of support”, said Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
