The Belarusian leader addressed pressing questions regarding political prisoners, including whether negotiations are needed with the illegitimate authorities, why pressure must be exerted on the regime, and what Ms. Tsikhanouskaya is ready to do to release people from prisons:
“I am ready to work from morning till late evening to draw attention to the issue. We do not have the keys to the prisons – the regime does. To release political prisoners, we need to dismantle the regime. Therefore, it is essential to attract attention and resources, increase pressure, and hold the regime accountable. These are the directions we are working on.
Some say we should negotiate with the regime. Of course, we should, but we need to understand what the regime wants. It actually seems to me that currently the issue of political prisoners is our problem, not the regime’s. We need to make sure political prisoners are a problem for Lukashenka too. What do we need to achieve that? More pressure”.
