During the meeting on November 25 with Mr. Habeck, who also serves as the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed ways to prevent sanctions circumvention and close loopholes. Mr. Habeck and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya underscored the importance of upholding sanctions against Belarusian potash fertilizers, in line with the Bundestag resolution. This resolution stipulates that sanctions cannot be lifted without justified reasons.
They also talked about supporting Belarusian experts in environmental issues, inviting democratic Belarus to international environment-related events, and cutting the dependence on fossil resources.
The situation of Belarusian political prisoners was discussed. The parties also talked about support for independent media, including increased funding for the Belarusian service of Deutsche Welle.
At the meeting’s conclusion, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya presented documents from the United Transitional Cabinet. These documents contain evidence of the regime’s efforts to circumvent sanctions, along with potential solutions to address this issue.
