Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Today Belarus celebrates Medical Worker Day. And it is about the same people who three years ago, with almost no protective equipment, treated Belarusians for COVID-19. At the time when the state denied the pandemic, they continued to save human lives. Without sleep. Without equipment. Without rewards.
The government constantly talks about how much it values medical workers, but we see its words have nothing to do with reality. The number of hospitals in the country has reached a record low, and there is a shortage of medical professionals. Meanwhile, salaries for medical workers are much lower than those for law enforcement officers. Instead of raising salaries and restoring the status of the profession, the regime makes propaganda films about doctors. As if such films can solve any problem.
But even in this situation, thousands of highly skilled professionals who know the value of human life do not quit. After all, without them, there would simply be no one to establish the right diagnosis for a small child, perform a complex operation, or cure an elderly pensioner. This is why today I want to say thank you again to all medical workers who not only work but also show real heroism despite all hardships. Thank you for your hard work!”
