  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya commented on Putin’s statement about placement of the first batch of nuclear weapons in Belarus

    June 17, 2023

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Let's start by remembering that neither we nor our international partners have any reliable information. It is very possible that two dictators are deliberately pushing false information about nuclear weapons.

What they want is to scare Belarusians and force Western countries to stop supporting Ukraine and to negotiate with Lukashenka and Putin.

They talk about “peace” but start a war. They claim “everything is under control” but cannot decide who’s to control the missiles. They say they want to “make us safe” but want to place targets for retaliatory strikes in Belarus.

Our common responsibility is for Belarusians, Ukrainians, and Western nations to prevent nuclear weapons, Russian bases, and Russian troops from being stationed in Belarus. To preserve Belarus's sovereignty and stop it from becoming Russia’s protectorate.

The stationing of nuclear weapons in Belarus affects global interests and must be discussed at the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council. We must act together to stop the dictators whose lies have reached the point where they are killing people”.
