The meeting took place on February 23 at the Vienna City Hall and was Ms. Tsikhanouskaya's first meeting with the mayor. Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora also attended.
They discussed supporting the Belarusian diaspora in Vienna, as well as organizing events and book exhibitions dedicated to Belarus. They also discussed launching exchanges or residences for repressed Belarusian artists, similar to programs already existing in Graz and Salzburg.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also urged the mayor to support the Belarusian labor movement and trade union activists. The mayor is a member of the Social Democratic Party, and the workers' issues are one of his priorities.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya called on the mayor to consider internships for young Belarusians, as the experience gained through them will help Belarusians restore democratic institutions. She also asked the mayor to support the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus on March 25.
