At the meeting Sviatlana Tihanowskaya spoke about the situation in Belarus, the regime’s attempts to stifle any freethinking, repression against media and national identity. They discussed Belarus-Russia relations, as well as possible steps in international organizations.
The Prince, who is also the acting head of the state, said that Liechtenstein would consider supporting Belarusian human rights initiatives. He also noted that Liechtenstein will take over the Presidency of the Council of Europe later this year, and it will be a good opportunity to work together within this organization.
Though not having a large diplomatic presence abroad, Liechtenstein is actively involved in international organizations such as the UN and the Council of Europe, including in its support for Ukraine.
