Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus’ regime.
Here is an overview of the Movement on May 2.
Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians
- The ŻYVI Foundation sent aid to Belarusians in Ukraine: sleeping pads, burners and cylinders, wet wipes, underwear, socks, and other items.
- Belarusians will exhibit authentic Ukrainian costumes at a charity fashion show in Seattle. All funds raised will be donated to purchase food and medicines for cities shelled by Russian troops.
- The Belarus' Kastus Kalinouski Battalion thanked volunteers for the aid: medications, first-aid kits, tourniquets, and other relevant help.
- Belarusians held a picket in Belgium in support of Ukraine and against the war.
- Belarusians of Warsaw held a rally to draw attention to those persecuted by the Lukashenka regime and designated as 'terrorists': honest independent journalists, bloggers, local activists, and others.
- The BYSOL Foundation maintains its aid to Ukraine. At the end of the week, a shipment arrived in Kyiv that included tourniquets, tactical backpacks and glasses, etc.
- In Tbilisi, Georgia, Belarusians held an action of solidarity to honor the memory of compatriots killed in the war in Ukraine.
- The US will push for bringing Lukashenka and his henchmen to accountability for repression of Belarusians and complicity in war crimes against Ukraine, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya announced following her visit to Washington D.C. Read more about the visit.
- Belarusians of Krakow, as well as Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Warsaw, Lisse and Toronto, marched to show their support for Ukraine and anti-war position.
- GEEK Ventures, an American venture capital fund founded by Belarusian Ihar Mahaniok in partnership with Ukrainian entrepreneur Vadim Rogovskiy, has been investing in Ukrainian startups after the war started.
Sabotage
- The Hajun monitoring project released an operational summary on the movements of Russian troops for the day. No major movements were recorded on May 2.
- Hajun also reviewed Belarusian state propaganda coverage of the war in Ukraine. The propagandists speculated on the outcome of the Second World War, saying Ukrainian fascists celebrate the Victory Day in a wrong way.
Resistance
- Residents of the Belarusian town Lida held a picket of solidarity with Ukrainians.
Awareness campaign
- The BYSOL Foundation exposed the repression of the Belarusian intellectual class and ban-lists in universities. The KGB banned Yahor Levachou, a talented young scientist, from entering graduate school and sent him to teach geography in a children's camp as compulsory graduate placement. Now, Yahor is a graduate student at a Lithuanian university, because the regime chooses loyalty over talent.
- Belarusian priests volunteer at the Polish border to help Ukrainian refugees. Orthodox priest Aliaksandr Kukhta, known for his YouTube channel, told refugees' stories and spoke on the Orthodox Church's position regarding the war in an interview to DW.
- The ByProsvet initiative made a pick of underground press issues for the week. Belarusians print and distribute leaflets with information on Belarus and Ukraine to counter state propaganda.
- Belarusian Yauhenia Dougaya told the stories of ordinary Belarusians, who, after suffering from the repressions in Belarus, continue to fight against the Lukashenka and Putin dictatorships and for the freedom of the Ukrainian and Belarusian peoples.
- The Honest People project exposed the regime's propaganda and challenged the dispute fueled by the Kremlin's trolls about Ukraine's 8-year-long bombing of Donbas prior to Russia's invasion.
