Mutual assistance and support
– Volunteers of SviatlanaTsikhanouskaya’sOffice have launched an information campaign called “Two Easy Steps”. During the campaign, flyers will be distributed with an appeal to join the Workers Movement and Peramoga Plan and to put up stickers.
– Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya expressed condolences to families of two people who died in the shooting in Minsk on September 29: “Human death is a big loss. We can’t have any more victims in Belarus. Violence must be stopped, and the rule of law must be restored. All imprisoned on political grounds must be released and rehabilitated. We also demand dialogue within the country for a peaceful resolution of the crisis”.
– Ms. Tsikhanouskaya’s Representative on Legal Affairs, Siarhej Zikratski, demanded an open and honest investigation of the murder because “the only source of information is the unsubstantiated statements of officials”.
– Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya congratulated educators on Teacher’s Day and urged them to subscribe to the teachers’ education initiative channel.
– Iryna Sazanovich, a member of the economic group of Tsikhanouskaya’s Office, commented to Belsat on the attempt to collect new funds for pension funds: “The Ministry of Labour does not have enough money to pay pensions”.
– Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya appointed Anatoli Liabedzka as a Representative on Parliamentary Cooperation. He will be in charge of establishing ties in the parliaments of foreign countries to support Belarusians. It will enable the more active promotion of the Belarusian issue on the international arena and more effective support for the Belarusian civil society.
– Anatoli Liabedzka and Special Representative on Elections Alexander Shlyk answered questions about the Constitution and elections. They discussed how the Constitution could restore confidence in the electoral system in the country, whether the CEC can be independent and impartial and whether it is possible to ensure the country’s main document against falsifications.
International work
– Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed the UN Human Rights Council. She said the regime had become a threat to regional and international security, and this terror must be stopped. She also called for support of the mandate of the Examination effort established by the HRC resolution 46/20, the work of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus and implement the #OSCE Moscow Mechanism recommendations.
– Ms. Tsikhanouskaya had a working visit to Albania, where she had meetings with President Ilir Meta (more), Prime Minister Edi Rama (more), and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Elisa Spiropali (more). They discussed the launch of a rehabilitation program for children of political prisoners, a possible ban on entry for officials and security officials, and support for a resolution on Belarus at the UN General Assembly. Albania is a member of the OSCE Troika and will join the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member from January 2022. Therefore, the country can actively promote the Belarusian issue in international organizations and keep it on the agenda.
– Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya had a working visit to Greece. In Athens, she had a meeting with Minister of Interior Makis Voridis to discuss the incident with the Ryanair plane hijacking and its consequences. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also took part in the Athens Democracy Forum. In her discussion with Yuval Harari, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya touched upon the subject of trust: “In Belarus, people are united by the motivation to live in a free and democratic country. We have trust in our people but not the illegal government”.
– In a discussion with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto at the Forum, she reminded that every state leader should remember responsibility: “If you support relations with the dictator, it means you support violence, torture, and imprisonment of the innocent”.
– Alexander Shlyk, Special Representative on Elections, spoke at the Association of European Election Organizers conference. He was the only representative of Belarus at the conference – members of the Central Election Commission of Belarus were present online, as they are under sanctions. Read more here.
